Grinding is a process performed with a machine called a grinder, which uses a fine-grained, extremely hard grinding wheel as its tool. Grinding is used to bring any component to the optimal shape or surface as designed; this operation follows roughing. While roughing removes the bulk of the residue, grinding eliminates all residue or excess material, ensuring a high degree of finish on the machined surface.

    Features:

PCM Meccanica Srl is capable of performing various types of grinding:

    Cylindrical Grinding
    Centerless Grinding
    Surface Grinding

    Cylindrical Grinding

It is used for machining cylindrical, conical, or contoured surfaces. It can be performed on both external and internal surfaces.

Cylindrical grinding is performed by mounting the workpiece on a spindle, which rotates slowly in the same direction as the grinding wheel. The spindle also performs the translational motion (axial feed).

The grinding wheel rotates rapidly and removes material.

    Centerless Grinding

This is used to machine long, thin, and small workpieces that are unsuitable for clamping between the spindle and tailstock.

In this process, the workpiece is held between two grinding wheels rotating in the same direction:

The large, fast-rotating grinding wheel is responsible for grinding the surface.
The smaller, slow-rotating driving wheel is responsible for rotating the workpiece and pressing it against the grinding wheel.
A blade also supports the workpiece during machining.

These precise, reliable, and highly technological machines are used in their most popular sectors, such as the automotive, bearing, electric motor, toolmaking, textile, and other industries.

    Surface Grinding

This is used to machine flat surfaces. It is divided into two categories based on the position of the grinding wheel:

    Tangential grinding
    Face grinding
In tangential grinding, the grinding wheel shaft is parallel to the plane being machined by the cylindrical surface of the grinding wheel.

In face grinding, the shaft is perpendicular to the plane being machined from the front by the grinding wheel.
