PCM performs contract turning work on traditional, visualized, and CNC machines.
Turning is an industrial manufacturing process achieved by chip removal. Turning is defined by a rotary motion of the workpiece and a mostly straight-line motion of the tool. The cutting edge of the tool penetrates the workpiece material and removes the excess material (stock), thus forming a chip.
PCM Meccanica Srl specializes in small and medium-sized turning operations.
Types of Turning:
Depending on the desired surface, turning is divided into:
Flat turning (or facing): flat surfaces perpendicular to the workpiece's axis of rotation
Taper turning: conical surfaces
Cylindrical turning: cylindrical surfaces coaxial with the workpiece's axis of rotation
Helical turning: helical surfaces, e.g. Thread cutting on a lathe
Form turning (or profiling): surfaces with complex contours
Depending on the tool position, it is classified as:
External turning: machining the outside of the workpiece
Internal turning: machining the inside of a hollow workpiece
Depending on the degree of finish, the process is called:
Roughing: initial machining stages
Finishing: final machining stages
