PCM performs horizontal and vertical milling on contract basis using 3/4/5 axis CNC machining centers.
Milling is a cold mechanical process for the removal of chips by a tool rotating around its own axis on a workpiece as it advances. To produce the finished part, it must fit within the original workpiece, from which the excess material will be removed.
PCM Meccanica Srl is a leader in precision horizontal and vertical milling thanks to ongoing investments in expanding and refining its machinery and technologies.
Description
The process is performed using machine tools such as milling machines or boring machines.
Milling, unlike other simpler processes, requires the rotation of the tool and the translation of the workpiece: the rotating cutters remove metal from the workpiece when the workpiece comes into contact with the cutter due to the translation of the workpiece bed.
The machining cycle typically involves an initial roughing phase, in which material removal is accomplished as quickly and cost-effectively as possible, leaving sufficient stock allowance for the subsequent finishing phase, in which the remaining excess material is removed to achieve the desired dimensions and achieve a smoother surface. Finishing, which involves a limited amount of metal removal, allows for compliance with the design in terms of dimensional tolerances and surface roughness.
